Edinburgh stars lined-up for Derby Festé homecoming
Derby’s leading street theatre company, Maison Foo, will be steering their mobile library in the direction of Derby Festé this September.
Derby is once again getting ready to welcome visitors from all over the UK for two days of “eye-popping, jaw-dropping, breath-taking” live performances on Friday, September 23rd and Saturday, September 24th.
And local act Maison Foo are set to be one of the stars of the show with their latest characters, “The Librarians”, who - complete with desks and filing cabinets - have already made an appearance at Red Or Dead’s Wayne Hemmingway’s Vintage Festival in London. Now, Maison Foo - aka Bethany Sheldon and Kathryn Lowe - are ready to unleash the lovely ladies onto an unsuspecting public in their home town of Derby.
Maison Foo, who gained rave reviews at last year’s Edinburgh Festival for their Memoirs of a Biscuit Tin, are also about to set-off on a nation-wide tour. And part of their aim is to help put Derby (and Derby Festé) on the map wherever they go.
Favourite street theatre characters portrayed by Maison Foo include the curiously charming intergalactic Alien Tourists all the way from Planet Flip Flop; a dusting down from the Hostesses with the Mostesses; 1950s etiquette experts The Trolley Dollies; a lesson in love at the portable wooing booth of Puppet Mr Pegg; a recession-busting bargain beachut; and a good old moan with the Nosey Nanas – better known as the NAFs (Nans Against Festivals).
Full details of the (very) inter-active act they are bringing to this year’s Derby Festé can be seen by visiting http://maisonfoomobilelibrary.com/.
They will be joining an act in Derby that has wowed audiences in capital cities throughout Europe. Spanish-based Sarruga, who thrilled audiences in both 2007 and 2008, will make a long-overdue return to the city this year – by transforming the entire city centre into a spectacular underwater world, with a performance of Peixos – which unfolds a full 30 metres under the ocean, and consists of giant illuminated fish and creatures from the deep. The night’s audience can expect to see sharks swimming overhead, as well as fish and jellyfish moving through the transformed streets, amidst vivid colours, and special effects of music, sound and light.
In just five years, Derby Festé has gained a reputation for bringing some of the very best outdoors acts in the world to the streets of Derby each September.
